Child Therapy
Children can face many struggles in which they could benefit from the support of therapy. During this period of immense development, the guidance of a trained professional can be crucial to helping the child establish confidence and good mental hygiene as they learn to navigate the world on their own. Whether it be a disrupting event that troubles the child— such as divorce, loss, or moving— or just having a tough time, our therapists at American Mental Health Institute are here to help.
Our Approach
Child and adolescent therapy sessions typically last between 50 and 55 minutes. The frequency and duration depend mainly on the child’s needs, treatment goals, and progress. Most concerns may be solved with short-term therapy, and more challenging concerns may require a longer-term commitment to gain noticeable improvement.
Common Problem Areas

How Can We Help?
At American Mental Health Institute, we meet the child where they are at. Sessions are structured similarly to our adult individual therapy sessions, where sessions are a one-on- one conversation between the therapist and child and are solely focused on the child’s presenting concerns. Treatment goals are determined collectively by the parents, therapist, and child’s needs. While it can sometimes be helpful for a parent to join the session to learn how to specifically help their child navigate a particular problem or environment, it’s important that the child have a safe relationship with their therapist where their thoughts can be heard and considered in privacy without bias.
